Overview

The Brooks Mazama 2 shoes represent one of the lightweight solutions to use for running away from the beat path. Dominated by the outsole with good grip, they are recommended for those seeking improved overall comfort, especially in the conditions in which you want to maintain good stability in the difficult and uneven terrains of trail running. With a mesh upper, the shoes also favor those seeking improved overall breathability and since contact with water can happen while running in nature, they are designed for fast drainage as well.

Outsole

The outsole remains unchanged from the previous version for most parts. It is one of the most interesting designs when it comes to grip and traction as it uses small chevron-style studs to grip to slippery and uneven surfaces. With one of the most interesting designs when it comes to overall durability and comfort, the shoe is among the top options to consider when it comes to a top outsole. Even more, the outsole alone can be a good reason to try them yourself. The sole exception might apply if you are coming from the first generation Mazama which has a similar outsole profile.

Midsole

The midsole comes with the same BioMoGo DNA technology which is recommended when it comes to improved overall comfort, especially in the conditions in which it is one of the top solutions when it comes to overall durability with the cushioning which is tested from all angles out on the trail. Furthermore, the shoes represent one of the top choices when it comes to added support in the heel with the added propulsion plate. While you will not effectively feel the plate, you will get a bouncier profile when stepping on harder surfaces.

Upper

The mesh upper is appealing and breathable. It maintains a profile made for the trail runner, even with considerable overlays on the forefoot and on the heel. With an improved overall design and better efficiency, it represents one of the most interesting solutions when it comes to better overall fit its distinct thin tongue. With better cushioning on the heel collar as well, the shoes are among the comfortable lightweight options to consider.

Updates

With a new profile using some of the proven characteristics from the previous version such as the design of the outsole, the shoes represent a comfortable option for those seeking improved overall comfort and support. At the same time, they also look very attractive which might not even indicate their trail running profile as they are not bulky either.

The upgrades to the shoes are mainly made to the upper. With a design which favors fast drainage, you will also have the freedom to pass through water when needed, especially as the outsole offers such a reliable grip. While the midsole and the upper are largely unchanged and not new to Brooks, the redesigned upper can mean that you can go further without having to worry about your feet staying wet as the upper dries quickly.

The thin tongue also ensures it stays drier for longer periods of time. It puts reduced pressure on the midfoot while still allowing a good overall comfort and reduced pressure from the lacing. With better durability with the added overlays, the shoes can also be seen among the options to use for a few seasons if you are an average runner.

Size And Fit

The shoes can be narrow for some runners with wide feet. Make sure you go half a size up if you want minimum space for pronation if you have wider feet.

With a lightweight profile, the shoe is recommended for trail running. It performs well due to its compact design which makes it quite versatile. With a durable outsole with plenty of grip, it sticks well to off-road terrains. It is mainly used for running but it can easily be adjusted to hiking. But the thing I like the most about the shoes is the new mesh upper. Being more lightweight, it allows my running style to really shine and feel natural, even when not on flat comfortable surfaces. With extra reinforcements in the forefoot, the shoe is also among the most interesting choices when it comes to durability, at least in its lightweight class.

With great results on short trails which are also technical, the lightweight shoes represent one of the best options for running on trails. They come with a comfortable design which does a good job at absorbing shocks, similarly to other leading Brooks designs. At the same time, the shoes are also made to be durable and this can be seen with the distinct lacing. For longer distances, the shoes can show their limitations in terms of cushioning and this is why they are best on short distances.
